Sleep.Walk.Kill review and interview

Synopsis:

If you sleep, you become one of them. News reports tell of an Earth-shattering sound heard along the entire East Coast. Nobody knows where it came from. Nobody knows what it means. That night, people start walking in their sleep. And killing in their sleep. When the screaming stops and the blood dries up, the ones who are left have to work together to stay alive. Heads will roll, eyeballs will fly, but for EDGAR, hell is still just other people. His ex-wife, his parents and all his neighbors are hiding out at his house. And they’re even worse than the flesh-eating sleepwalkers.

Interview:

Zombie Evolution: First off, I wanted to tell you that I really enjoyed your movie.
Justin Miller: Thank you so much. I'm glad you liked it.
ZE: I wanted to ask you, what inspired you to create this story?
JM: Well, I've always been interested in dreams. When I was younger, I tried to figure out lucid dreaming. I tried staying up for days on end. Looking back on it, that probably wasn't a good idea. But it worked. I was aware in my dream, but as soon as I realized that I was dreaming, the excitement woke me up. I've also known people who had night terrors. That is a terrible thing to have to deal with. Also, some people sleepwalk and that has always fascinated me.
ZE: I'm sure. So you decided to make a movie about people who sleepwalk.
JM: Yeah, I wanted to explore the implications of not knowing what you're doing while you're asleep. If you wake up and you've killed someone, but you don't remember, that would be horrible.
ZE: And it was. I loved that depiction in the movie. If you ever want to make a sequel, I'd definitely love to contribute to any crowd funding campaign you put out.
JM: Like maybe Sleep.Walk.Kill.Repeat.
ZE: That would be awesome!
JM: This was actually my first feature length film. I had done some horror shorts, but it was my daughter that inspired me to actually get up and make it. One day she called me, "the guy on the couch," and that motivated me to want to achieve this.
ZE: Well, I'm really glad she did that.

Review: I am so glad I got to speak with the writer/director of this film. I really enjoyed it. I really loved some characters, and hated others. The dialog was often humorous, and the story was well crafted. At the end, I was glad that there was some semblance of resolution. I don't want to spoil it for you. I also like that there are so many unanswered questions. It leaves it open for them to be explored in sequels. And if there are any, I will definitely be watching. Unfortunately, there are no current plans for a DVD or Blu-Ray release, but I hope they'll be able to secure distribution because I would love to own a copy. For now, we can all watch it starting November 4th on digital and VOD.

Review:

VIRT is kind of like a murder mystery crossed with The Matrix. Imagine finding evidence of murder, and then becoming the prime suspect because nobody else has seen this evidence. Such a terrifying concept. The title sequence at the beginning was a little long, but the rest is well paced. I'm glad it had a happy ending, mostly.

Horror Tales 666 part 2

Horrortales.666 Part 2 (2021)

18 years ago A burglar broke into a author’s house. He comes across a computer with all his secret stories. One by one he reads them and slowly is drawn into the terror of each one. Now the Burglar played once again by JOEL D. WYNKOOP is back his old tricks and once again breaks in a house with stories to be told. This time he is taunted by a man who promises to take him to hell and back and make him pay for past evil deeds. PHIL HERMAN returns and is joined by DUSTIN HUBBARD this time to produce. This chilling anthology features some horror cult classic stars such as DEBBIE ROCHON, the first Jason in FRIDAY THE 13TH, ARI LEHMAN, SHAWN C. PHILLIPS and DEBBIE D! They will chill you to the bone with these new entries.

Honestly, when I started watching this, I was wondering where the story was going. Then I realized that it was a framing device and the intro sets up an anthology of several different short films. I do know several of the people involved in this project. My favorite "story" was the Christmas one. It's amazingly clever how this film was put together during Covid. Then a little more than halfway through the movie, it veers off in a completely surprising and hilarious direction. I was laughing the whole time! Phil, I'd like to see if I can host Horror Tales 666 part 2. I hope I'm not too late.

Eradicator: Absolute Authority

The YouTube channel, Blinky500 primarily makes fan films. I've been a fan of this channel for years. They explore a lot of the stories that aren't shown in the original source material. Some of my favorite films of theirs depicted the back story of Freddy Krueger before he was killed and was still human. That's what pulled me in to this channel and their amazing content.

My friend, Chris R. Notarile has a keen sense for gripping tales involving characters we already know and love, such as Michael Myers, Chucky, Wonder Woman, and Spider Man. His films are sometimes serious, sometimes humorous, sometimes scary. You can tell that he is actually a fan of all the characters he uses in his films. He knows their rich history and characteristics, and carefully crafts amusing, fascinating, and impactful stories about their everyday lives and adventures.

Eradicator: Absolute Authority is an extremely timely tale of justice in today's world of corruption in the police force and trigger happy cops. It's an impactful show of how those of us who may seem powerless do still have heroes who will stand up for the 99 percent. It's the story of an injustice that was done to one of us, that represents the story that could be any of our's. As Martin Luther King Jr. said, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." This films shows that we cannot let injustice stand. The production value is great, with a couple of fantastic drone shots. All together, very well done.

When They Come promotion

This is a book by my friend, Kody. Here is the synopsis:

I never was afraid of monsters—at least, not until They came: the visitors from outer space.
Now They’re in our skies, on our streets, always watching, forever waiting.
At seventeen, I’m just about to graduate from the Juvenile Education System and declare my career of choice. The Midnight Guard—who protect our community from the vicious things that lie outside our walls—calls to me.
It’s hard, dangerous work, with grueling hours that offer little sleep, but it’s the one thing I know will help make a difference in our ever-changing world.

This is a little bit about Kody:

Though he was born and raised in Southeastern Idaho, Kody Boye has lived in the state of Texas since 2010. His first short story, [A] Prom Queen's Revenge, was published at the age of fourteen. He has since gone on to publish numerous works of fiction, including the young-adult novels When They Came, The Beautiful Ones, The Midnight Spell and ALT  CONTROL ENTER, as well as fiction for adults. He currently lives and writes in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas.

Kody's book will be available on Kindle. This promotion starts tomorrow and goes until 11:59 Pacific time.

No Knock List review

Summary:
When two hardened criminals facing harsh sentences make a break from prison, they hatch their plan to rob a paranoid recluse who runs a boarding house in her sprawling Victorian manor. Just as their plan seems to be coming together, things inside the mansion begin to unravel. It's a race against time for the men to escape with their lives and sanity intact. The VanGobels mansion holds some very dark secrets, and those who don't follow Ms.VanGobels rules are sure to unlock those secrets. Abandon all hope he who enters here.

No Knock List is an independently released horror film, directed by Rich Rule, and written by Zeilo Vogta. It stars one of my favorite horror actresses, Maria Olsen. It opens with a short scene in which the inescapable dangers of the house are hinted at. From there, it establishes our two protagonists, Keith, and Lou. They are both prisoners, but Lou seems much more of a hardened criminal. Later, we find out Keith's story of how he ended up in prison.

There are various creepy scenes, including the dinner table scene, the ballroom scene, and the bathroom scene. The ballroom scene features some ballet, which was both beautiful, and haunting to watch. Actress Maria Olsen plays the matriarch of the bed and breakfast. As usual, she turns in a spooky and eccentric performance. You do not want to bump into her in a dark corridor. Much mystery surrounds the house and its past. The two criminals would probably have been better off going somewhere else.

I don't want to ruin the ending for you, but suffice it to say, this film is well worth a viewing. Many of the other characters have creepy performances. And there is genuine chemistry between Keith and Andrea, the mysterious and soft-spoken servant with a past. You can read more about the film here: No Knock List IMDb page Don't miss out on a fun, scary ride!

Blood Craft

The first official trailer and poster for BLOOD CRAFT, featuring a who's who of horror including Dominique Swain (FACE/OFF), Michael Welch (from THE FINAL WISH), Mark Rolston ('Drake' in ALIENS!), and Dave Sheridan (THE DEVIL'S REJECTS) has been released. Blood Craft trailer

The witchcraft-centric horror film Blood Craft, featuring Dominique Swain (Face-Off), Dave Sheridan (The Devil's Rejects), Mark Rolston (Aliens) and Twilight’s Michael Welch (The Final Wish) will be out April 9th.

Directed and co-written by genre specialist James Cullen Bressack, the film tells of two witchcraft-practicing sisters (Madeleine Wade and Augie Duke) out to get revenge on their already dead father.

Madeleine Wade, who also stars in the film, co-wrote the screenplay.

Says Bressack, “We can’t wait for audiences to discover this unique, disturbing and very Disturbing film…”

The film, which will first play festivals through March, on digital April 9th.

The film was produced by James Cullen Bressack, Micah Brandt, James Thomas, and Madeleine Wade.

Official synopsis : Two sisters who suffered abuse as children at the hands of their sadistic father decide, after his death, to use witchcraft to bring his spirit back to get revenge.

I have a personal connection with several of the people involved in this movie. When I was a talent agent, I submitted several of my actors for roles in some films that Dominique Swain and Anna Harr were in. I, myself, auditioned for a film in which I would have had the opportunity to work with Augie Duke. I've been to several premieres of James Cullen Bressack and have gotten to speak with him face to face. I've blogged about his movies on multiple occasions. I love his movies! I even own a rare DVD of some of his early work. For months now, I've even been playing Words With Friends with Dominique Swain. She usually kicks my butt. Anyway, I look forward to seeing this film. I hope it premieres in Tucson. The trailer looks absolutely fabulous!

Window With A View

I am very excited to have the opportunity to interview actress Maria Olsen about the upcoming horror feature, Window With A View!

ZE: How are you doing today?
Maria Olsen: Exceedingly well, thank you!! And you?

ZE: How long have you been in the entertainment industry?
MO: Seeing that I first went on stage at the age of 6, I think I've now been in the industry for more years than I can count!

ZE: I've seen your posts and know that this sort of film is right up your alley. What other projects have you done?
MO: Although I've been in a ton of horror features, from what I'm hearing, I'm best known for Starry Eyes, Trophy Heads and Mark of the Witch. I was also in Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, and I will be starring alongside Jamie Bernadette and Camille Keaton in the much-anticipated sequel to the iconic I Spit On Your Grave (1978), I Spit On Your Grave Deja Vu.

ZE: What projects are you currently working on besides this one?
MO: Currently I'm gearing up to shoot horror features Sweet Dreams, Desert Shadows and The Crumbs (that's just up until the end of April). The anthology horror feature The Sunday Night Slaughter from An Anti-Hero Production should also be released this year, along with Beast of our Fathers from Menning Films, Charlie Comparetto's Ghost in the Graveyard, Luke Genton's The Bone Box and Barry Jay's Ashes. I've also recently had three films released: Robert Conway's Krampus Origins, Roxy Shih's Painkillers and Rebekah McKendry's Christmas-horror-themed anthology feature All The Creatures Were Stirring.

ZE: What is your involvement in this film?
MO: I'm blessed to be talent on this project, which means that I'm one of the awesome actors that have been cast in the film. I'm thrilled about this because the character I read for was very intriguing, and I am very interested in finding out more about her and discovering what makes her tick! My character's name is The Librarian, but she's so much more than your normal Marian-The-Librarian type...in fact, she's rather terrifying!

ZE: How did you get involved in this?
MO: I saw the breakdown for the film on the IMDB Feature Film Casting Board, and I submitted for the role both directly by email and thru the IMDB website. I was lucky enough to be requested to audition, and I then taped my audition and submitted it to the production team. A few weeks after that, they emailed me to say that, if I liked the script, they would like to offer me the role!

ZE: What does the story mean to you?
MO: I found Window With A View to be a tale that operates on several levels while its intersecting stories touch on several groups of people showing that the actions spawned by the Big Bad's malevolence spans decades. Being trapped somewhere deadly that you cannot escape from is many people's worst nightmare, and the Haunted Orphanage, home to the titular Window, will never let you go!

The film's website goes on to summarize the story as follows:
"Our story begins at a girls' orphanage, with the county sheriff stumbling upon a mass murder scene. 20 years later, four college students goof off outside of the orphanage, when one of the students gets drawn into the house and will not let him escape. The other three, after trying to get in to save him, report to the authorities and an investigation begins, with the force discovering strange information about the house years ago. The student’s brother is called in, who is now a paranormal investigator. He, along with his “Scooby” gang and his brother's friends, re-enter the house. Clue by clue, they are led to the discovery that they are unable to leave the house either. One by one they start to fall victim to the house and spirit that feasts upon their souls, the result of “sin” that was in the house."

ZE: How did the screenplay affect you when you first read it?
MO: I read the screenplay through in one sitting - I always like to do that so that I get a sense of the continuity of the story - and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I'm a very visual reader because I usually see everything that's going on in my mind's eye, and WWAV has some great imagery in it, which is something I'm looking forward to helping create. I also enjoyed the humor in the story, and the more light-hearted scenes act as a pleasant break from all the blood and gore! The backbone of the story - and the cause of all the horrible happenings - is extremely intriguing, and, as I've never quite seen this particular type of villain, it may even be unique!

ZR: What sort of perks can investors look forward to when they contribute to this campaign?
MO: I find the perks that are being offered as part of this project to be extremely exciting as they include - among other things - a chance to have an actual speaking role in the film written especially for you! Other fun perks include personalized video messages, your own personal Easter Egg in the film, annotated copies of the script and sneak peeks at the footage. Product placements and song placements are also up for grabs, as are Executor Producer credits - and these are only SOME of the perks!

ZE: When is this film looking to start production?
MO: I understand that the final round of auditions will be happening this month in Kentucky, and the production team has told me that filming should start in summer.

ZE: With the budget, will the film only be taking local actors and crew, or can people from out of town submit for an audition?
MO: Well, I know of at least ONE out-of-state actor that's lucky enough to be cast : ME!

As I'm not privy to the film's budget other than what's public knowledge on the Indiegogo fundraising page, I don't know how many out-of-state actors the project will bring in.

ZE: A feature film on a budget like this is ambitious. Will further funding be needed for post-production, and promotion?
MO: The WWAV budget breakdown that was uploaded to the film's Indiegogo page does indeed show that post-production would be covered should the film reach its goal. The big question, of course, is "will the goal actually be reached?". This is, of course, where everyone wanting to support indie film comes into things, and Team WWAV would love it if people could contribute and pick up one of the awesome perks, or, if that's not possible, if they could just share the project on social media to get the word out there. Should the goal not be reached - and I've seen this situation many times before with indie films - the filmmakers could decide to make the film with what they have managed to raise, and they'd then launch a further funding campaign to cover post-production costs after principal photography has wrapped.

ZE: Is this a non-union production?
MO: Again, I'm just an actor on this project and not privy to all of the inside information, but, as far as I know, yes, it is.

ZE: Is there anything else you'd like our readers to know about?
MO: I would very much like to introduce the creative team behind the film: Director Chad Hundley : the story is based on a terrifying dream that he had, and he cannot wait to make his dream a reality!
Writer Jerry Williams : carefully worked alongside Chad to help pin his dream-story to the page!
Casting Executive and Producer Cassidy Rae Owens : on a mission to find the best talent ever!
Co-Director and EP Cherokee Hall : will make sure that cast and crew dot all the Is and cross all the Ts! Assistant Director and Production Executive Rhonda Bingham : AD-ing is the hardest job ever, but I'm sure she's up to it! Cinematographer Dillon Patrick : his eyes light up at the thought of shooting in the house! Yes, this is true - watch their pitch video and see!

The Demon Dead: Troubled Waters

Let me start by telling you that this book is the sequel to The Demon Dead: Tres Zombies, which is my favorite zombie book of all time. Then let me add, this book is my new favorite. Arthur M. Wyatt is a master story teller. Both books are deeply involved with what happens to the spirits of the people once the person has become a zombie. Any fans of my own work will understand why that would be so fascinating to me. That's exactly what my books are about!

Troubled Waters continues the story from Tres Zombies exactly where we left off. The protagonists can never seem to catch a break. In the first book, there were several interactions between our heroes and various people and zombies. As we go through this narrative, we re-visit all of them and see how their stories turned out. It gives a delicious, often depressing finality to their stories. But that's not even my favorite part of this book.

Without giving too much away, I will tell you that at several points in the story, we will be given the backstory to a zombie that has just attacked our heroes. These poignant and touching vignettes add a richness and depth of character rarely seen in zombie stories. I actually care about the zombie who just got his head blown off because he was trying to eat my hero. That is my favorite part about this book. I cried so many times throughout reading it.

Do yourselves a favor and pick this one up. I know that a lot of people think that the zombie genre is tapped out, but there are so many unexplored avenues of story possibilities and Arthur M. Wyatt is a pioneer in the field of spiritual zombie stories. Brian Keene, David Wellington, and I can only watch as he forges new ground.

Beacon Point

This movie is quite well acted. Rae Olivier, the lead actress turns in a heart-felt performance as Zoe. She can be angry, seductive, and even produce real tears. Several elements of this movie remain a mystery right up until the final scene. You see them and wonder what they mean, and then it wraps up perfectly in a stunning turn of events that leaves you wanting to know more. There is definitely room for sequels here and I'd watch them if they are ever made. You can view the trailer here: Beacon Point trailer

Take a trip to Beacon Point this May when the highly-anticipated science-fiction thriller lands on VOD via Uncork'd Entertainment.

The film, called "an intelligent and interestingly innovative inferno of horror, science fiction, folklore, and thrills," hails from talented newcomer, Eric Blue.

Zoe has quit her job to hike the Appelachian Trail as a tribute to her deceased father. She joins a small group of inexperienced hikers for an adventure of a lifetime. The group is Dan, recently divorced and looking for a change from Silicon Valley, Cheese, a 17-year-old kid, and Brian, his half brother that he just met. They are led by Drake, a hot-headed trail master with a questionable past. They are upbeat as they set out on the ten-day trek through the Great Smokey Mountains. Drake leads them away from the main trail and the tourists, promising a grand adventure and sights they'd never see with the standard tour. After a gruesome discovery, they become lost deep in the mountains. The adventure spins out of control when they are terrorized at their campsite by an unseen force.

Rae Olivier, Jon Briddell, Eric Goins, Jason Burkey, and RJ Shearer star in this Eric Blue film written by Blue and Traci Carroll.

Evil Nanny

Evil Nanny is based on a true story and is all the more terrifying for that! This movie is amazingly well-made and has twists and turns that keep you guessing. The ending was unexpectedly touching.

Famed filmmaker Jared Cohn made this movie, Evil Nanny, which is due out in May.

A couple hires a live-in nanny to watch the offspring while they work. At first, everything goes perfectly, but when an unsafe incident means the parents no longer want the nanny around, they find out this nanny is savvy at not being evicted from her live-in situation. So savvy, in fact, that she can make these parents' lives a true nightmare.

Devil's Domain

After becoming the victim of vicious cyber bullies, Lisa makes a deal with the devil to exact revenge on her tormentors. Stars Michael Madsen ("The Hateful Eight") This movie also stars my friends Angie Stevenson and Shawn C. Phillips.

Famed filmmaker Jared Cohn has made three new films: Devil's Domain, Evil Nanny, and King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table - all due out in May. Cohn, who is gearing up to direct the Lynyrd Skynyrd movie, has had a successful run in horror and thrillers, with such films as Buddy Hutchins, Jail Bait, Wishing For A Dream, and Little Dead Rotting Hood to his name. These three new films add something different to his dynamic.

The Jurassic Games

Los Angeles, California: Galen Christy's High Octane Pictures, in association with the Oklahoma Film+Music Office (OF+MO), have kicked off production on Ryan Bellgardt's The Jurassic Games.

Starring Ryan Merriman (Final Destination 3) and Perry Reeves (Entourage), the film imagines a world set in the near future, wherein ten death row convicts are chosen to compete in the Jurassic Games, the ultimate virtual reality game show that pits its players against dinosaurs and each other. However, there is a catch. If you die in the virtual game, you also die in reality; and for Anthony Tucker (Adam Hampton), survival is his one chance to be reunited with his children after having been wrongfully imprisoned for the murder of his wife. As the devious Host continues adding improbable challenges, the characters will find the odds stacked against them as only one victor can emerge as winner and claim their freedom.

The Jurassic Games is the third film from Emmy Award-winning director Bellgardt, whose highly anticipated creature feature Gremlin will be released this summer.

Says "High Octane Pictures is very excited to be back in business with Ryan Bellgardt - inarguably one of the most talented new filmmakers in the business. The Jurassic Games is a very exciting concept - it's part Hunger Games, part Jurassic Park, and just a hell of a lot of fun. With Bellgardt behind the camera, and the fantastic cast we've lined up for the film, it's definitely a movie for film fans to anticipate. It's gonna be dino-mite."

High Octane Pictures upcoming credits include buzzed-about horror title Clowntergeist, out mid-year, and high concept science-fictioner The Answer.

Psychos

Psychos did something that movies rarely do, and that is it surprised me with the twist at the end. I pride myself in being able to figure out endings before they come, but this time I could not. I watched as an investigation of the crime scene and a news report (featuring a cameo by my friend, Johanna Rae) set up the ending. They told you how it was going to end, but not how we were going to get to that ending. This is one of those rare movies where character development drives the story forward. I highly recommend this movie. I'm usually not a fan of torture horror, but this kept that to a minimum and it was actually relevant to the story, so it was justified. Watch the trailer here: Psychos Trailer

This March they're back for bloody revenge. Writer-director Sandy Chukhadarian's Psychos attacks VOD 3/17 from Leomark Studios.

The Never-Ending Story Actress Returns To The Big Screen!

Los Angeles, California : 30 years later, The Never-Ending Story’s Tami Stronach makes her much welcome return to the big screen.

The actress, forever remembered for her role in Wolfgang Peterson’s 80’s classic, has signed to appear in writer-director Nicholas Gyeney’s Ultra-Low starring Lauren Holly.

The film, a meta drama that takes an unfiltered look at the lives of an independent filmmaking team as they struggle to break down the doors of Hollywood, features most of it’s players as themselves.
“The script is about how hard it is to make a movie--as someone who has produced a lot of dance and theater I really related to the script and Nicholas makes that pain funny”, Stronach, also known for her years in dance, says. “Also I thought it was amusing to reintroduce myself back into film by playing myself trying to get back into film.”

Described as a cross between Clerks, Good Will Hunting, and Entourage, the film takes the audience into the tough world of independent filmmaking like no film has before.
The story begins with a filmmaking team that’s already sacrificed to make several feature films. While having significant indie budgets and films starring name actors, they can’t seem to get the attention of the industry elite. Upon learning the news that their latest endeavor will not be accepted into any top tier film festival, the team has hit rock bottom. With heavy hearts, they push each other to pick up and move forward on development of their next feature film, a supernatural thriller called The Red Vision, in hopes that it will be the one that finally turns heads their direction. As development progresses, the team lands actress Lauren Holly and her voice shines as a guiding light of wisdom for the young filmmakers as they fight through the trenches.

The long game plan for Ultra Low takes it beyond the movie and into producing the film within the film, The Red Vision; A supernatural thriller and love story described as a cross between Insidious, Ghost, and Unbreakable, which aims to enter production soon after wrapping production on Ultra Low.
Ultra Low is produced under Gyeney’s Seattle-based production banner Mirror Images LTD (Second Nature, Beta Test, Matt's Chance, The Penitent Man). It begins production in Seattle on March 6th.
